About Burscough FC
1946-1959
Our Early Successes
Founded in 1946, Burscough FC quickly established itself in the Liverpool County Combination, achieving a treble in the 1946/47 season by winning the Lancashire Junior Cup, George Mahon Cup, and Liverpool Challenge Cup.
We won the Junior Cup again in 1949 and the Liverpool Challenge Cup in 1952. Joining the Lancashire Combination in 1953, we won the Second Division Championship in our first season, and in 1955/56, we claimed the First Division Championship, finishing ahead of Wigan Athletic.
Our FA Cup journey began in 1959, reaching the First Round Proper.
1966-1980
Trophy Wins and FA Cup Runs
Under manager Bobby Langton, we won the Junior Cup in 1966/67 and the Lancashire Combination First Division title in 1969/70.
We joined the Cheshire County League in 1970/71, won the Liverpool Non-League Senior Cup in 1972, and the Cheshire League Cup in 1974/75.
We reached the FA Cup First Round Proper three times during the late 1970s.
1982-1990
New Leagues and Relegation
We became a founding member of the North West Counties Football League in 1982 and won its inaugural championship.
Despite suffering our first relegation in 1989/90, we bounced back under manager Russ Perkins, regaining promotion to Division One.
1992-2003
Cup Victories and FA Trophy Triumph
In the 1992/93 season, we won the League Challenge Cup and the Liverpool Senior Cup. Under manager John Davison, we won the League Challenge Cup again in 1995.
Our greatest triumph came in 2003, winning the FA Trophy under Shaun Teale, defeating Tamworth 2-1 at Villa Park in front of almost 15,000 fans and spectators.
2003-2010
League Challenges and Management Changes
After our FA Trophy win, we nearly achieved promotion to Conference North in 2003/04. In 2005/06, we reached the FA Cup Second Round Proper.
Liam Watson managed the team to win the Unibond Northern Premier Division and the Lancashire Co-Op Trophy in 2006/07. We finished 8th in Conference North in our first season but were relegated in 2008/09 amid management changes and financial difficulties.
2010-Present
Rebuilding and Stabilisation
Over the past two years, Burscough FC has undergone a remarkable transformation. Significant investments have been made in both the club’s infrastructure and the surrounding community area. This period has also witnessed a newfound stability on the pitch, contributing to the club’s overall progress.
Looking ahead to the 2024/25 season, there are exciting developments in store. The upcoming year will mark the delivery of a new seated stand/area for spectators, enhancing their matchday experience.
These enhancements represent a continuation of the club’s commitment to growth and development. With each passing year, Burscough FC aims to build upon its successes and further strengthen its bond with the community.
