BURSCOUGH 3 LITHERLAND REMYCA 0
By Neil Leatherbarrow
It proved a fairly comfortable victory at the Community Ground for Burscough on Saturday and with one or two their rivals at the top end of the North West Counties Premier Division without a league game the Linnets took full advantage to set a marker by going second in the table.
Meetings between the two teams are usually close affairs with the visiting team often emerging successful, so it was a good performance from the Linnets to finish up winners by three goals.
In his post match interview with Burscough FC TV manager David Dempsey was happy but said “We have scored three good goals and created a lot of chances, we never got opened up and were solid defensively, my only criticism of a 3,0 win was that we could have got more. It was very pleasing”
David continued: “All the subs have come on and the standards haven’t dropped, I thought all the sixteen (players) from the first minute right through to the last I can’t fault anything.. . We have a good group but we need to stay grounded, we have had a great start to the season but nothing is won in August, we go on to South Liverpool on Bank Holiday Monday.”
Burscough took the lead after just nine minutes his third goal of the season.
The second arrived just before half-time via penalty a cynical foul when clean in on goal brought the spot kick which was efficiently despatched by Steve Rigby.
It could have been more at the turnaround but Litherland goalkeeper Lucas Brennand put in an inspired performance.
The third and final goal came from Mason Duff, his first of the season it sent the Linnets support home pleased and an hour or so later when the league table was published that only added to their smiles.
It is FA Vase Day at the Community Ground with a First Qualifying Round game against league new boys MSB Woolton kick off 3pm, followed on Bank Holiday with a trip Jericho Lane to play an in form South Liverpool who won 6-1 at Pilkington on Saturday.
With no midweek game scheduled for next week the Linnets momentum will be put on hold on Saturday 30th August as they have no game.
